I received my first HelloFresh box today, so I thought it would be lots of fun if we unboxed it together! I tried to squeeze in the video recording while my oldest two boys were at tennis and the two littles were supposed to be napping. Click below to see how that turned out for me. 😛 (I was going to re-record it, but both my mom and hubby said it was perfect as is and insisted that I post this version!) For your reference, I chose the “Family Plan” for four people and three recipes/week.
After I turned off the camera, I realized that I hadn’t found the recipes, so I dug a little deeper into my box and behold! They were at the very bottom. The recipes are printed in color on nice, thick, glossy cardstock. the front shows the title of the recipe, a beautiful photo of the plated meal, stats (prep time, total time, calories), and the ingredients (with pictures). When you flip to the back, there’s a column on the left with four sections. The first is “Start Strong,” which gives a deeper description of the recipe or a tip for making it. The second is “Bust Out” and lists the equipment needed while making the dish. The third is “Ingredients,” which lists, well, the ingredients. (Duh.) The final section is “Hello Wine” and suggests a wine that would pair well with the meal. (I love this!) Most of the back features step-by-step instructions, with a colored picture above each step. (P.S. During the unboxing, I wondered whether I would need to wash the produce. Now that I’m looking at the recipe, I see that the first step is: Wash and dry all produce. So that answers that!) Most (not all) of the recipes have a small section called “Fresh Talk” in the bottom-right-hand corner and gives suggestions of mealtime conversation; for example, “What are three acts of kindness we could do as a family?” (I love this too!) It also includes a separate sheet with all the nutritional facts for each recipe, and there was a brown envelope inside with some discounted offers for other companies, which, in full disclosure went right in the recycling.
I’m so excited to try these meals! I will keep you posted as to how they turn out. I’m especially interested in how easy they are to prepare and what kind of portions I end up with. Do you have any questions before I dig in? Have you ever tried one of these boxed meal services?
